This job involved the complete assembly and secure installation of two handrails (one for each side) along a three-step staircase.
The handrail height was determined by measuring vertically from the nose of each stair tread and marking the desired height on both walls/sides. The location of wall studs, newel posts, or mounting surfaces was identified and marked precisely for the placement of the handrail brackets on both sides. On three steps, one bracket near the top and one near the bottom. The two handrails were measured and cut to the correct length, ensuring they extended horizontally past the top and bottom steps for safety and code compliance.
The handrail brackets were secured directly into the anchors for masonry on both sides of the staircase, using heavy-duty, code-compliant fasteners. Brackets were aligned to follow the same pitch (angle) as the stairs. Both handrails were then securely placed onto the installed brackets. They were attached from underneath using screws or other specified hardware, ensuring a tight, non-wobbling connection.
Both completed handrails were tested by applying downward and outward pressure to confirm they were solidly anchored and could withstand the required load (typically 200 lbs) as per safety standards.
