This job involved the repair and finishing of the drywall opening surrounding a newly installed or upgraded electrical service panel (breaker box). The goal was to enclose the rough opening and blend the repair seamlessly with the existing wall texture.
The severely damaged and crumbling edges of the existing wall were trimmed back to a manageable, stable edge. Because the electrical box is recessed and the opening is large, backing strips were secured to the adjacent wall studs to provide a solid surface. New pieces of drywall were precisely cut to size and shape. These patches were fastened to the installed backing, bringing the wall surface tight against the edges of the metal breaker box casing.
All new seams created between the old wall material and the new drywall patches were covered with joint tape. Multiple, thin coats of joint compound (mud) were applied over all taped seams and fasteners. Then the compound was feathered out onto the existing wall to eliminate any visible lines, making the repair flush and smooth with the existing wall plane.
Finally was painted, and all the work area was cleaned, ensuring no debris or mud was left on the floor or on the breaker box itself.
