- Concrete Repair
This project involved decommissioning a heavily dented, compromised metal guard wrap, removing the damaged internal plywood and drywall backing, and rebuilding the column finish to standard store specifications .
Detached and stripped away the buckled base metal shielding and protective orange safety padding from the lower portion of the column.Carefully cut away and disposed of the fractured internal drywall layers and rotten or compressed plywood backing that had degraded from impact. Cleared all old fasteners and debris down to the central structural steel post to ensure a clean, stable foundation for the new build-ou
Cut and installed high-durability plywood backing sheets directly over the structural core to provide the necessary impact resistance against future forklift or shopping cart collisions. Faced the plywood reinforcement with new, heavy-gauge drywall panels, ensuring all edges were cut plumb to match the vertical profile of the upper column section.
Then, mounted heavy-duty, perforated steel corner guards along all four vertical edges of the rebuilt lower section to prevent future edge-cracking or crumbling. Applied multi-coat drywall mud over the seams and perforated metal beads, feathering the compound to achieve a completely flush transition with the original upper column.
Fianally, finished the entire column using a color-matched, high-gloss industrial paint to seamlessly tie the repair into the store’s existing layout and aesthetics. Swept up all drywall dust, metal shavings, and scrap cardboard, restoring full, unobstructed cart access to the retail aisle.
