The task involved the complete and successful construction of a new, ready-to-assemble (RTA) bookcase, ensuring stability and correct structural alignment.
All components and hardware (screws, cam locks, dowels, shelf pins) were carefully removed from the packaging and verified against the parts list to confirm all pieces were present and undamaged. The base and primary side panels were assembled first, usually connected using wooden dowels for alignment and secure fasteners (like cam locks and bolts) for structural rigidity. This process established the foundational squareness of the unit.
The thin backing material (often fiberboard) was carefully aligned and secured to the rear of the frame using small finishing nails or screws. Shelf pins were inserted into the desired pre-drilled holes along the interior of the side panels. The adjustable shelves were then placed onto these pins.
All fasteners were checked for proper tightness, and the completed unit was gently moved to its final location. The bookcase was inspected to ensure it stood straight, plumb, and level. Finally, all packaging, excess materials, and tools were collected, and the work area was thoroughly cleaned and organized.
